3 Ways to Align Your Work Environment with Your Goals

When it comes to staying focused and productive in your workspace, curating your ideal work environment can make an enormous difference. From keeping things tidy and organised to employing a Marie Kondo-style ethos of prioritising what will “spark joy”, there are a number of ways you can design an environment to encourage success and fulfilment in your work. Author James Clear counts three sure-fire methods to do this.

1. Automate good decisions

Once you’ve decided something can be adjusted to help you along on your goal progression, design your environment in a way that will be conducive to it. If you want to spend more time focused on work, it might mean upgrading your work chair for something more ergonomically healthy and comfortable.

2. Get in the flow

Begin to incorporate the good habits you wish to establish into your routine of normal behaviours. This might mean keeping your bike in the hallway if you have a goal to go bike riding in the mornings before work, or picking a gym to go to that’s on the way home from work. Think about the best ways to implement your new desired habits into your existing routine, so as to make it as easy as possible to follow through with them.

3. Remove negative influences

Out of sight, out of mind – so remove those temptations from your space! You can’t eat junk food or drink alcohol if there’s none in the house, so put away anything that might tempt you to stray from your good habits.

By following these three simple steps, you can see a drastic change in your journey towards achieving your goals.
